The airlines of the SATA Group - SATA Air Açores and Azores Airlines - have renewed their IEnvA (IATA Environmental Assessment) environmental certification, reaffirming the Group's commitment to sustainable practices in the aviation sector. Similarly, the SATA Group airlines saw their IOSA – IATA Operational Safety Audit certification, one of the main international benchmarks for operational safety in aviation, renewed.
As part of the audit carried out, the Maintenance and Engineering departments of SATA Air Açores and Azores Airlines obtained IEnvA accreditation for the first time, becoming part of the SATA Group's environmental management system, thus joining the Flight Operations and Corporate Activities departments, whose certification has now been renewed.
The IEnvA programme, developed by IATA, is an independent and voluntary environmental assessment system based on international standards such as ISO 14001 and aligned with IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) requirements. It also includes references to other relevant standards, such as ISO 50001, ISO 46001, as well as guidelines related to combating illegal wildlife trafficking, as set out in the Buckingham Palace Declaration.
IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) renewal confirms strict compliance with international standards, the robustness of the Safety Management Systems implemented and the continuous adoption of operational practices in line with the highest industry standards.
The SATA Group airlines were the first in Portugal to be certified under IATA's IEnvA programme, which was implemented in 2022 with the aim of adopting procedures that ensure effective environmental management in line with global best practices in aviation.
These two certifications, which differ in scope and coverage, recognise the adoption of best practices in the sector in terms of operational safety and environmental management.
